Provincial Administration of the Western Cape

The Department of Social Services has a long-standing working relationship with Cape Town Child Welfare whom we regard as one of our most respected service delivery partners. We can therefore provide this letter of commendation with confidence in the knowledge that the Cape Town Child Welfare lives up to the positive image we are projecting of it.

Apart from the fact that the business of the Cape Town Child Welfare is very soundly managed, it has a proven track record of championing the rights, care and protection of children. Accordingly, it has organisationally structured itself in a manner that both reinforces and promotes this role. In this respect, it is one of the leaders in its field.

Similarly, the Cape Town Child Welfare is in the vanguard of transformation of service delivery to children and families. This is reflected in the integratedness of their approach as well as the consistent move towards greater emphasis on early intervention and prevention, supported by active community involvement. It is also reflected in the increasing emphasis on developing appropriate, affordable, community-based models of service provision. It is particularly in this regard that the Cape Town Child Welfare's work, notably in the area of children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, has been recognised at a national level.

In addition to all of the aforementioned, the Cape Town Child Welfare is generous in its willingness to share its experiences with others. It similarly readily volunteers its time to participate in processes that assist the Department and by extension, other service providers in the welfare and development sector, to formulate policies that advance the transformation of service delivery. We can unhesitatingly recommend their services as being invaluable.

The Parliament of the Republic of South Africa

Children in South Africa are often the most affected by the disintegration of families and communities, especially so amidst the poverty and social deprivation that still characterises so many of our communities. This means that they are in need of even more of our care and attention. When it is no longer possible for the family to care for the child, it falls to organisations like Cape Town Child Welfare to provide for some of those special needs.

The Cape Town Child Welfare has a long history of deep involvement in children's issues, and we have on a number of occasions had the opportunity at Parliament to hear its views and to ensure that those views impact on the policy and legislation we introduce. Care for our children is one of our deepest concerns, and therefore we commend organisations like Cape Town Child Welfare for the work it has done, and still does, with regard to children in need.

We wish you continued success in your work, and trust that you will be able to continue to source the funding necessary to strengthen and extend your efforts.
